TOBIN

Tobins of Busherstown, Glenmore [DD Notebook 4, interview of Michael Power, Busherstown, Glenmore on the 9 May 1969]

Tobin’s house in Busherstown stood in field under land going over to Hartley’s and Fitzgerald’s. It contained 1 ½ acres.

Catherine Tobin née Phelan (c. 1908-1982) native of Ballyfacey, Glenmore [Obit in the Kilkenny People, Fri. 3 Dec. 1982, p. 17]

            Mrs. C. Tobin—Mrs. Catherine Tobin, Ballyveria, Glenmore, who died in St. Luke’s hospital, Kilkenny, aged 74, was the last surviving member of the Phelan family, Ballyfacey, Glenmore. She was for a long number of years associated with the faring life of the district and was relict of Michael Tobin, who died a few years ago. She was mother of the late Michael Rigby, by her former husband, Dan Rigby, who died 12 years ago, and aunt of Michael Phelan, Ballyveria; John Phelan, Dangan, Kilmacow; Denis, Seamus and Thomas Phelan, Ballyfacy; Eileen, Bridget and Josie Phelan, do; Michael Rigby, Ballyconnacht, Tullogher; Mrs. Stasia O’Neill, Kilkenny; Mrs. Kathleen Foskin, Upper Kilmacow; Mrs. Mary Power, Bigwood, Mullinavat; Mrs. Anna Roche, Curraghmore, Slieverue; Mrs. Nora Kennedy, Ballybeg, Waterford. The remains were removed to Glenmore parish church, and interment took place in the adjoining cemetery after Requiem Mss, celebrated by Fr. T. O’Connor, P.P., Glenmore, who also officiated at the graveside.

TREACY

               WEDDING AT GLENMORE—The marriage was solemnised at St. James’s Church, Glenmore, of Mr. John Kiely, younger son of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Kiely, St. Anne’s Terrace, Kilmacthomas, Co Waterford, and Miss Aine Treacy, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Treacy, Carrigcloney, Glenmore. The ceremony, with Nuptial Mass and Papal Blessing, was performed by Very Rev. W. Brennan, P.P., Glenmore, assisted by Rev. p. Madigan, C.C., do and Rev. N. Wall, C.C., Kilmacthomas.

Bridget Treacy née Young (1914-1981) formerly of Carrigcloney, Glenmore [Obit in the Waterford News & Star, Fri. 30 January 1981, p. 23]

MRS. BRIDGET TREACY—The death occurred at her residence on Friday, 16th January of Mrs. Bridget Treacy (nee Young) of 65 Marymount, Ferrybank, Waterford. Aged 66 years, she was a native of Cooleen, Tullogher. She resided at Carrigcloney, Glenmore for a number of years until she moved residence to Ferrybank. Up to the time of her retirement, a year ago, she worked on the staff of Belmount Park Hospital. She is survived by her husband Thomas, her daughter Eileen, Ferrybank, her son, John, London, her daughters Mrs. Michael Harney, Wicklow, Mrs. John Kiely, Walshe’s Terrace, Kilmacthomas and Kathleen Treacy, Dundee, Scotland. Her sister Mrs. Kathleen O’Mahoney, Middlesex, England, brother James Young, Cooleen, Tullogher. The remains were removed to Ferrybank Church accompanied by a large cortege which showed the popularity of this charitable lady, and were received by Very Rev. Canon O’Sullivan, P.P., Father Dalton and Moore were also present. Requiem Mass was then celebrated for the repose of her soul by Fr. Moore, C.C. After 12 o’clock Mass which was also offered for her and was celebrated by Fr. Dalton the remains were removed to St. James’ Church, Glenmore which again was attended by a large and representative attendance and were received by Fr. O’Connor. Interment took place in the adjoining cemetery, RIP. [Editor’s Note–Bridget was born on 10 April 1914 at Coolan, (sic) Tullogher, to Laurence Young (carpenter) and his wife Mary Dillon. Bridget married Thomas Treacy on 23 Nov. 1932.]

               NURSING EXAMINATION SUCCESSMiss Brigid Treacy daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Treacy, Carrickcloney, Glenmore, has passed her final examination in nursing at St. Otteran’s Hospital, Waterford.

               YOUTH INJURED—John Treacy, aged 16 years, son, of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Treacy, Carrickcloney, Glenmore sustained injuries to his hand when in collision with a lorry whilst near his home. He was conveyed to Waterford Infirmary, where it was found necessary to amputate a finger.

Kathleen Treacy (c. 1934- 1947) of Carrickcloney, Glenmore [Obit Munster Express, Fri; 4 April 1947, p. 8]

         BEREAVEMENT—Sincere sympathy will be extended to Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Treacy, Carrickcloney, Glenmore, on the death of their 13-year-old daughter, Kathleen, which occurred at the Fever Hospital, New Ross, on Sunday, after a brief illness. Her demise at such a comparatively early age is deeply regretted by her family, relatives and fellow school children. Interment took place at Glenmore on Monday.

`            BEREAVEMENT—Sincere sympathy will be extended to Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Treacy, Carrigcloney, Glenmore, on the death of their invalid son, Laurence, aged eleven which occurred in Ardkeen Hospital on Sunday last. He was brother of John Treacy, England; Mrs. J. Kiely, do; Mrs. M. Harney, Fahee, Mullinavat; Mrs. W. Murphy, Wicklow; Eily and Kathleen Treacy, Waterford. He was also grandson of Mrs. Mary Kate Treacy, Smithstown, Tullogher, and nephew of the Treacy family, do. Burial took place at Glenmore on Tuesday morning after 10 o’clock Mass, celebrated by Very Rev. William Brennan, P.P., do., who also officiated at the graveside.

Maura Treacy, of Carrickcloney, Glenmore [ Note in the Munster Express, Fri. 18 Nov. 1949, p. 2]

               LEFT FOR ENGLAND—Miss Maura Treacy, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Treacy, Carrickcloney, Glenmore, left for England on Tuesday last to enter the nursing profession.

               APPOINTED TENANTS—Thomas Treacy, Parkstown, Glenmore, has been appointed tenant of a cottage at Carrickcloney, do., formerly occupied by the late Ellen Grace.

               Deaths—Thomas Treacy, 65 Marymount, Ferrybank and late of Carrigcloney, Glenmore who died on Wednesday 6th of February in St. Patrick’s Hospital. Removal from St. Patrick’s on Friday evening last at 6 p.m. to Glenmore Church. Requiem Mass was on Saturday morning at 11 am. Burial was afterwards in the adjoining cemetery.
