Dick Young, of Ballyfacey, Glenmore [DD Notebook 2, interview of Mrs. Mai Aylward of Ballyfacey on the 25th of January 1970]

Dick Young, of Ballyfacey married Katie Hennessy of Ballyfacey (aunt of the present Johnnie Phelan). Dick and Katie Young lived in the cottage where Dwyers now live in Moulerstown. The couple had had no family and he is dead over 40 years. Katie was a first cousin of Anne Doherty of Busherstown, Glenmore.

Mrs. E. Young [Ellen Young née Barron] (c. 1876-1930] a native of Ballyfacey, Glenmore [Death notice in the Munster Express, Fri. 31 Jan. 1930, p. 8]

DEATH OF MRS YOUNG—The interment took place at Glenmore on Monday last of Mrs. E. Young, a native of Ballyfacey, who died at her residence, Summer Hill, Waterford, on Saturday. The late Mrs. Young was a sister of Mrs. Doody, Miltown, Kilmacow, and was well known and deservedly esteemed amongst a wide circle of friends. To the sorrowing husband and relatives we offer our sincere sympathy. [Editor’s note–Death register provides Ellen Young of 13 Summerhill, Waterford died on the 25th of Jan. 1930 at the age of 54. R. Young, her son, was present. We believe this was Ellen Barron who married William Young (carpenter) on 4 July 1897 in Glenmore. Birth register provides that an Ellen Young née Barron, of Philip St., Waterford had a son Richard on 17 Nov. 1897.]

George Young and Edward Aylward of Ballyfacey, Glenmore, sailed to American on Sunday the 20th of May 1906.

Josie Young, of Ballyveria, Glenmore [Article in the Munster Express, Fri. 28 March 1969, p. 15]

Nursing Examination Success—Miss Josie Young, who has passed her final examination in nursing and secured her S. R.N.  at St. Anne’s General Hospital, Tottenham, London, is daughter of Mrs. Johanna and the late Mr. Richard Young, Ballyveria, Glenmore. She has been in the profession for the past four years, and prior to going to England, spent a period training in Dublin. She won the prize for the best second-year student nurse at St. Anne’s in 1967.

Larry Young, of Ballyfacey married in Coolnaleen to _____. They had the following family: (1) Dick Young of Ballyveria, Glenmore who died last year.
(2) Daughter who married Tom Tracey;
(3) John Young, of Tullogher who married one of the Forristals of Shambogh.
(4) George Young went to America. He worked with Jimmy Woods of Smithstown, Tullogher. From there he went to America 50 years ago. Not married.
(5) Maria Young never married. She lived in Ballyveria. She was aged about 70 or so when she died about 20 years ago. Mai Aylward stated, “her arse was as wide as the jennet’s car.”
(6) Hannie Young was a nurse in Waterford. She died about 40 years ago and never married.
(7) Bridget Young married in Waterford possibly to a man named O’Leary.
(8) Bill Young married in Waterford to Bridget Barron of Milltown, Glenmore. They had a family of whom the present Dick Young in Waterford is a son.

Laurence Young (1872-1945) of Coolnaleen, Glenmore [Obit in the Munster Express, Fri. 20 April 1945, p. 5]

            DEATH OF MR. LAURENCE YOUNG—The death occurred rather suddenly at his residence, Cooleen, Tullogher, of Mr. Laurence Young, at the age of 73 years. Deceased was husband of Mrs. Mary Young, do., and father of Messrs. James Young, do.; Rd. Young, Ballyfacey, Glenmore; Misses Mary and Katty Young England, and Mrs. T. Treacy, Carrigcloney, Glenmore. He was also brother of Nurse Hannie Young, of the staff of the County Hospital, Waterford, and the late Miss Maria Young, Ballyfacey, who died some time ago.

Deceased, who was a well-known and familiar figure in the district, carried on the trade of carpenter for many years, his turning out of the completed farm cart being one of his specialities. He made hundreds of these for clients over a ide area, and a strange feature was the fact that on the day previous to his death he finished a cart for a local order. That night he complained of feeling unwell, and passed away early the following, fortified by the last rites of the Holy Church, of which he was a most exemplary member.

Of a jovial and good humoured nature, Larry as a great favourite with all the lads from the locality, who gathered to his home each night to join in a game of cards and to hear many stories of the olden times, of which he was an interesting and intelligent narrator. All sections in the area united in paying a last deserving tribute to the memory of deceased when the remains were removed to Mullinarrigle Church on Friday evening, the cortege being composed of a large and representative attendance. The remains were received at the church by Very Rev. Laurence Canon Coghlan, who recited the prayers. Interment took place in the adjoining cemetery on Saturday after Requiem Mass.—R.I.P.
