List of 43 Glenmore Farmers in 1869

The Kilkenny Journal & Leinster Commercial and Literary Advertiser (Sat. 16 Oct. 1869, p. 2) published a full page of farmers from across County Kilkenny who publicly requested a meeting in 1869. The purpose of the meeting was to begin dialogue with the Government to settle the Irish land question. Below is the publised request as well as the published list of 43 Glenmore farmers and their townlands.

Requisition—We the undersigned, request that a meeting of the City and County of Kilkenny be hereby convened, to be held in Kilkenny, on Monday, October 18th, at the hour of twelve o’clock, to impress upon the Government the absolute necessity which exists for an immediate, satisfactory, and final settlement of the Irish Land Question, believing that such a settlement, not only for the sake of justice to the Tenantry, but for the safety and tranquillity of the Empire, can be erected only by a law based on the principles of fixity of tenure and fair rents.
