Ellie Vereker, of Davidstown, and John Fitzgerald, of Knockbrack, were married the same day as James Vereker and Mai Kirwan in November 1936.
Mrs. Catherine Vereker, of Glenmore [Death notice in the Munster Express on Friday the 13th of May 1949]
The death occurred at her residence, Glenmore, on Wednesday last, of Mrs. Catherine Vereker. Deceased, who came of a family long associated with the farming life of the district, was widow of the late John Vereker, and mother of Rev. Richard Vereker, Pennsylvania, U.S.A., to whom as well as to the other members of the family sincere sympathy will be extended in their sad bereavement.
Interment takes place today (Friday) after Office and High Mass at Slieverue. RIP [Editor’s Note–Catherine Vereker (c. 1872-1949) according to the death register, was the widow of a farmer, and died at her home in Davidstown, Glenmore, on the 11th of May 1949, aged 77. Her son James was present when she died. ]

DEATH OF MRS. C. VEREKER—As briefly announced in a recent issue, the death occurred at her residence, Davidstown, Glenmore, of Mrs. Catherine Vereker after an illness of some months duration. Deceased, who was aged 85 years, was widow of the late John Vereker, who died in April, 1929, and mother of Rev. Richard Vereker, Pennsylvania, U.S.A.; Messrs. Patrick, James and Tobias Vereker, Davidstown; Mrs. J. Fitzgerald, Knockbrack, Glenmore; Mrs. J. Fitzggerald, Campile, and Mrs. K. O’Connor, Dublin.
She was also sister of Mrs Durney, Melville, Mullinavat; Mrs. Dollard, Ballytarsney, Mooncoin; Mr. Red. Delahunt, Aylwardstown, Glenmore and the late Mrs. Sinnott, Attyremore, Slieverue. A native of Aylwardstown, deceased came of a well known and widely connected family, and her demise, though coming in the fulness of years, is regretted. Office and Requiem Mass were offered up at Slieverue Church, of which the celebrant was Rev. D. Hughes, D.D., C.C., do., and sixteen priests were in the choir.
Interment took place subsequently in the family burial ground adjoining. Forty Mass cards were placed on the grave.—R.I.P. Funeral arrangments by Messrs. Tom Power and Sons Ferrybank.

James Vereker, late of Ballincrea, Sliverue and now of Millbanks, Rosbercon, wrote a poem entitled the “Banks of the Suir,” which was published in the Munster Express about April 1942. It was an entry for a Clover Meats Social.

James Vereker, of Davidstown, and Mai Kirwan, of Gaulstown, were married in November 1936.

Simon Denn had farm in Carriganura of about 40 Irish acres. He wasn’t married and sold the farm to Badge, a saddler in Waterford City. Badge was married and had a daughter who was married to O’Connor of the Redhouse in Shanbogh. Badge later sold the Simon Denn farm to James Millea of Treanaree.
James Millea was married to one of the Phelan girls from Shanbogh and they had no family. After James Millea’s death his widow and her brother-in-law John Millea sold the farm in about 1926 to John Vereker of Davidstown. It is said that John Millea who was unmarried was later killed by a bull.

John Vereker (c. 1787 -1865), of Rochestown was married to Bridget ______ and they lived at Vereker’s Cross in Rochestown. They had at least 8 children:

[3] Mary Vereker (1817) married William Walsh of Mooncoin on 2 May 1844;
[4] Wiliam Vereker (1821);
[5] Laurence Vereker (1822);

[7] Bridget Vereker (1834-1856); and
[8]Ann Vereker (1831-1854).

WEDDING—A pretty wedding was solemnised at the Pro-Cathedral, Dublin, with Nuptial Mss, the contracting parties being Guard B. O’Connor, Swords, Co. Dublin, and Miss K. Vereker, Davidstown, Glenmore. She is the niece of Mr. Tobias Vereker, Barronstrand St., Waterford. Rev. Father Vereker, St. Joseph’s, Manchester (uncle of the bride), assisted by Rev. Dr. Gibbons, C.C., Glenmore; Rev. Fr. Walsh, P.P., Johnstown, Kilkenny; Rev. Fr. Smith, St. John’s, Waterford, performed the ceremony.
The bride was attended by her sister, Miss E. Vereker, and the best man was Mr. T. McLoughlin, grocer, John St., Waterford. After the ceremony breakfast was served at Vaughan’s Hotel, and the happy couple left for Belfast on the honeymoon.

CO. KILKENNY PRIEST’S DEATH IN AMERICA. The death has occurred of Very Rev. Dr. Patrick Vereker, Pastor of St. Columba’s Church, Johnstown, Pennsylvania. A native of Slieverue, Co. Kilkenny, Father Vereker was ordained in St. Kieran’s College in 1893, and he spent 44 years in America, 40 of which were as Pastor of Johnstown. He was abrother of Rev. R. Vereker, P.P. Manchester, Mr. Edward Vereker, of Mooncoin; Mrs. Walsh, Slieverue, and the late Rev. James Vereker, California. He was uncle of Rev. Richard Vereker, United States.

Fr. Richard Vereker was appointed Rector on 17 May 1916 in St. Joseph’s of Heywood (near Manchester in the UK). He was appointed Curate of Parish on the 17th of May 1989. Father Richard Vereker died about 12 years ago. He had two brothers who were also priests: (1) Frather James Vereker who died at the age of 33 on the 30th of November. (2) Father Pat Vereker died in October 1938 at the age of 71 in Johnstown, Pennsylvania.
Father Richard Vereker also had a nephew who was also named Richard and also became a priest. The nephew Father Richard Vereker died in March 1968 in Pennsylvania aged 73 years.

DEATH OF MR. TOBIAS VEREKER—Must regret was occasioned by the death of Mr. Tobias Vereker, Barronstrand St., Waterford, which occurred on Monday morning last. The deceased who was close on 70 years, was a native of Davidstown, Glenmore, Co. Kilkenny.
He established a large and successful licensed and grocery business which he conducted with ability and probity for over 30 years. Of a quiet and retiring disposition, he made many sincere friend in Waterford, all of whom appreciated his many good, if unobtrusive, qualities.
The late Mr. Vereker was brother of the late Rev. James Vereker, San Francisco, of Rev. Richard Vereker, P.P., Haywood, Manchester; Rev. Patrick Vereker, P.P., Pennsylvania, and was uncle of Rev. R. Vereker, Cassandra, P. He was brother of Mr. Ed. Vereker, Moonveen, Mooncoin, and of Mrs. Mary Walsh, Davidstown. He is survive by his bereaved wife, Mrs. Elizabeth Vereker, Barronstrand St.
The remains were removed to St. Patrick’s Church on Tuesday evening accompanied by a large number of sympathising friends and relatives. The funeral of the late Mr. Tobias Vereker, Barronstrand St., Waterford, took place to the family burial ground at Slieverue, after Requiem Office and High Mass, which were celebrated in St. Patrick’s Church…

(3) Margaret Vereker married James Fitzgerald of Busherstown, and lived in Rosetown(?).
(4) Ellen Vereker married John Fitzgerald, Knockbrack.
(5) James Vereker married Mai Kirwan of Gaulstown.
(6) Patsy Vereker married Mai Freaney of Ballyfacey; and
(7) Tobias Vereker never married.

Mrs. Vereker, of Davidstown died on the 31st of May 1913.
