TOBIN
Tobins of Busherstown, Glenmore [DD Notebook 4, interview of Michael Power, Busherstown, Glenmore on the 9 May 1969]
Tobin’s house in Busherstown stood in field under land going over to Hartley’s and Fitzgerald’s. It contained 1 ½ acres.
Catherine Tobin née Phelan (c. 1908-1982) native of Ballyfacey, Glenmore [Obit in the Kilkenny People, Fri. 3 Dec. 1982, p. 17]
Mrs. C. Tobin—Mrs. Catherine Tobin, Ballyveria, Glenmore, who died in St. Luke’s hospital, Kilkenny, aged 74, was the last surviving member of the Phelan family, Ballyfacey, Glenmore. She was for a long number of years associated with the faring life of the district and was relict of Michael Tobin, who died a few years ago. She was mother of the late Michael Rigby, by her former husband, Dan Rigby, who died 12 years ago, and aunt of Michael Phelan, Ballyveria; John Phelan, Dangan, Kilmacow; Denis, Seamus and Thomas Phelan, Ballyfacy; Eileen, Bridget and Josie Phelan, do; Michael Rigby, Ballyconnacht, Tullogher; Mrs. Stasia O’Neill, Kilkenny; Mrs. Kathleen Foskin, Upper Kilmacow; Mrs. Mary Power, Bigwood, Mullinavat; Mrs. Anna Roche, Curraghmore, Slieverue; Mrs. Nora Kennedy, Ballybeg, Waterford. The remains were removed to Glenmore parish church, and interment took place in the adjoining cemetery after Requiem Mss, celebrated by Fr. T. O’Connor, P.P., Glenmore, who also officiated at the graveside.
TREACY
Bridget Treacy née Young (c. 1915-1981) formerly of Carrigcloney, Glenmore [Obit in the Waterford News & Star, Fri. 30 January 1981, p. 23]
MRS. BRIDGET TREACY—The death occurred at her residence on Friday, 16th January of Mrs. Bridget Treacy (nee Young) of 65 Marymount, Ferrybank, Waterford. Aged 66 years, she was a native of Cooleen, Tullogher. She resided at Carrigcloney, Glenmore for a number of years until she moved residence to Ferrybank. Up to the time of her retirement, a year ago, she worked on the staff of Belmount Park Hospital.
She is survived by her husband Thomas, her daughter Eileen, Ferrybank, her son, John, London, her daughters Mrs. Michael Harney, Wicklow, Mrs. John Kiely, Walshe’s Terrace, Kilmacthomas and Kathleen Treacy, Dundee, Scotland. Her sister Mrs. Kathleen O’Mahoney, Middlesex, England, brother James Young, Cooleen, Tullogher.
The remains were removed to Ferrybank Church accompanied by a large cortege which showed the popularity of this charitable lady, and were received by Very Rev. Canon O’Sullivan, P.P., Father Dalton and Moore were also present. Requiem Mass was then celebrated for the repose of her soul by Fr. Moore, C.C. After 12 o’clock Mass which was also offered for her and was celebrated by Fr. Dalton the remains were removed to St. James’ Church, Glenmore which again was attended by a large and representative attendance and were received by Fr. O’Connor. Interment took place in the adjoining cemetery, RIP.
Kathleen Treacy (c. 1934- 1947) of Carrickcloney, Glenmore [Obit in the Munster Express, Friday 4 April 1947, p. 8]
BEREAVEMENT—Sincere sympathy will be extended to Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Treacy, Carrickcloney, Glenmore, on the death of their 13-year-old daughter, Kathleen, which occurred at the Fever Hospital, New Ross, on Sunday, after a brief illness. Her demise at such a comparatively early age is deeply regretted by her family, relatives and fellow school children. Interment took place at Glenmore on Monday.
